Anger can have a detrimental effect on physical and emotional health . It is often a signal that something needs to be dealt with and if left unchecked , anger can lead to violence . Therapists sometimes teach their clients to express their anger in a physical way by hitting cushions or screaming out . Sometimes , however , this can have the effect of strengthening the angry feelings , so it is far better to change your irrational beliefs and then try and resolve the matter in a practical way .
